Full Steam Ahead

Thank you to Dr. DeFranco for inviting Mrs. Fey and I to present our student's recent Leprechaun challenge to you, the Board of Education and everyone in the audience this evening. STEAM stands for Science-Technology-Engineering-Arts-Mathematics. It is a cross-curricular approach to learning with an emphasis on student collaboration to solve problem-based tasks. We are happy to share this project with you as an example of a cross-curricular project that has been done many times in our district, but can continue to evolve into the 21st century. Many projects that we are undertaking in grade levels across Absecon could already be referred to as STEAM learning. We think the addition of Engineering to the well-known Leprechaun traps traditionally constructed in grade K-2, was all it took to make this a worthwhile STEAM experience for our class.
