Math Partner Practice
This afternoon we had a productive Math activity where the students rotated opposite directions in two concentric circles while practicing double- digit subtraction problems on their white boards.
The inner circle students were equipped with tens rods, boards, and markers, while the outer circle students rotated clockwise to ensure a great variety in problems and partnerships. Students were able to solve the problems on their white boards while also tactilely manipulating the answers through the use of their tens rods.

Subtraction Facts
The students have been practicing their subtraction facts using many different strategies, all with our eye on memorizing the facts for later success. In this lesson, we partnered up and presented our classmates with an even number of snap cubes. The partner was then asked to turn that number into a doubles subtraction problem. Many of the students quickly realized that doubles facts are actually the beginning stages of division as they broke the snap cube groups exactly in half. Great work everyone!

Conquerors of the Magic Square
All sums down and across from the three numbers equal 15!!! Nice work to Leah, Calvin, Kylie, Savannah, Lambros, Domenick, and Eileen for attempting and completing the Magic Square challenge. As a group, we will enjoy a courtyard lunch bunch next week on a day when the weather is nice.
Each conqueror must carefully plan a lunch according to their assigned numbers below. For example, the numbers 2, 3, 8, 12, and 25 could translate into a lunch of 2 halves of a sandwich, 3 celery sticks, 8 ounces of juice, 12 grapes, and 25 chips. Be as creative as needed to adhere to your numbers.
I will tentatively plan this grand day for Tuesday, November 8. The weather forecast on Monday for that day may require a rain or cold date. Notice will be given if a cold spell approaches.
Here are the numbers:
Calvin 1, 1, 5, 8, and 20
Savannah 1, 2, 4, 4, and 15
Eileen 1, 3, 6, 10, and 12
Leah 1, 4, 4, 8, and 30
Domenick 1, 2, 5, 6, and 12
Lambros 1, 4, 6, 8, and 18
Kylie 1, 1, 7, 10, and 15
If your heart is set on buying lunch that day, we are an understanding lunch bunch; but wouldn't it be fun to plan a packed lunch to match your magic numbers.

Math Challenge Lesson 2-7
We have been adding three numbers in Math for the past two lessons. The Magic Square below is a way to add three numbers across or down. What makes it magic is that if you place the numbers correctly, all the sums across and down will be 15. Since 2,9,4, and 5 have been used, you must place 1, 3, 6,7,and 8 in the remaining spaces to get your magic sum of 15.
Answers are due Wednesday, November 2. Correct responses will join our Math lunch bunch in the courtyard.

Project O.R.E.O.
So we had so many extra OREOs from our generous parents that we organized the first annual OREO cookie eating contest! Let's just say MANY OREOs were harmed in the taking of this picture. Kenzie lost count on her way to victory.
We're kidding, of course! Each student had only a handful of treats after all the work was done!
